Camilla Townsend wrote in the introduction that there were different views of Maltinzin over the years. She was viewed as a wanton woman who betrayed her people, and then later as a victim who was forced into her situation. From reading the introduction of the book I think that Townsend believed she was a little of both. I think that she saw Maltinzin as a woman just doing whatever she could to make her way in life. I think Townsend would think this image of Maltinzin is an accurate portrayal. In this image she is seen with Cortes. It shows her role as interpreter for both sides. This image of the meeting of the Spanish and the Aztecs shows the important role that she played in the conquering of Aztecs. I think she was a smart enough to do what she needed to so to improve her life. The more valuable she was to Cortes the higher quality of life she had. Though many think still that she betrayed the Aztecs in reality she was just doing what she had to do to survive and have a better life.
